The world is a playground. Parkour teaches kids how to play with it.

Running, jumping, balancing, climbing: parkour turns any sidewalk, park, or backyard into a place to move, solve problems, and build real confidence. It's even better when you play too, so we teamed up with our friends at American Parkour to help your family start. 🀝

Kids are built for this

Watch a kid at a playground and you'll see parkour already happening: jumping between things, balancing on edges, finding their own route. Parkour gives that instinct a practice.

🧠

Confidence they earn themselves

Every jump is a challenge a kid sizes up, attempts, and lands on their own judgment. That loop of assess, try, adjust is exactly how self-trust gets built.

🧩

Movement plus problem-solving

There's no one right way through an obstacle. Kids invent routes, compare them, and refine: creative thinking that happens to build strength, balance, and coordination.

🌳

A reason to be outside

No field, no team, no season required. A curb, a low wall, and twenty minutes turn an ordinary walk into the best part of the day.

The research backs it up

A systematic review of 21 studies on adventurous outdoor play found positive effects across physical activity, social health, creativity, and resilience, and that environments letting kids test their limits promoted more play time and richer social interaction (Brussoni et al., 2015).

Parkour specifically has been studied in primary school PE: an eight-week parkour unit improved motor creativity, movement competence, and, importantly, how competent kids believed they were (Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy, 2024). American Parkour's school programs are built on the same idea, running in 50+ schools with adapted-PE options because parkour is for every body.

It's the same play research our game ratings are built on: kids grow through self-directed, slightly-challenging play with people they trust nearby.

Parkour is for you, too

Everything we make at Coplay Club runs on one idea: do it together. Outdoors, that's easier than you think. You don't need to vault anything: walking a curb like a balance beam next to your kid counts, and it counts double because they saw you try.

Balance, landing softly, judging a gap: these are skills adults quietly lose and can absolutely rebuild. Twenty minutes of playing outside together gets both of you moving, and gives your kid the version of you they love most, the one who plays.

Screens fully optional. This is coplay in the open air. 🌳

Start today: low, slow, and together

Real parkour starts inches off the ground. The rule that keeps it safe and keeps it fun is the same one: master the small version before trying the bigger one.

1

Balance walks

Curbs, parking blocks, low walls, fallen logs. Walk forward, then sideways, then backward. First one to touch grass restarts.

2

Precision jumps, ground level

Pick two cracks, lines, or sticks and jump from one to the other. Land quietly: bent knees, still feet. Quiet landings are the whole skill.

3

Safe landings before height

Practice landing and rolling on grass before anything above knee height. Height is earned, and the earning is part of the fun.

4

Respect the space

The parkour tradition our friends at APK teach: train safely, respect yourself, others, and the environment. Leave every spot better than you found it.

Mark Toorock

Founder & CEO, American Parkour

Mark founded American Parkour in 2005, the first organized parkour community in the US and now over 165,000 strong, and Primal Fitness in Washington, DC, one of the first CrossFit gyms in the world. He's spent two decades coaching, building training spaces, producing the World Parkour Championships, and bringing parkour into schools. His mission, in his own words: helping people be more happy, healthy, and productive through the power of play.

He's also an old friend: Coplay's founder Paul spent five years as an APK co-founder and sponsored athlete, building the sport alongside Mark. Twenty years later, both of them are still saying the same thing: never stop playing.

Coming next: local gyms and coaches

We're working with Mark to help families find parkour gyms and kid-experienced coaches near them. Until then: find a curb, bring your kid, and take the first balance walk today. πŸ’›
