Ingredients

For the base

Every brew starts with a count. Count them into the cauldron together, out loud.

• Three leaves crunchy enough to hear
• Five tiny things for the bottom of the cauldron
• Four blades of grass, the longest you can find
• Seven pebbles smaller than your thumbnail
• Three things that came off a tree
• Two handfuls of nothing but brown

Monster parts

Nothing here is what it looks like. The witch decides whether it passes.

• Two rocks that could be a monster's eyes
• One stick shaped like a wand
• Something that rattles like bones
• One leaf with a hole a bat could see through
• Something shaped like a claw
• A stick with exactly three fingers
• Something a spider would hide under
• A feather, or something lighter than one

Colors of the season

• Two things the color of a pumpkin
• Something as black as a cat
• One thing the yellow of a full moon
• Something the green of a witch's nose
• Something the grey of an old stone
• One thing with two colors on it

The witch's test

Judged by holding it up against the witch. Fast, funny, and impossible to argue with.

• Something rougher than a witch's elbow
• Something softer than a cat's ear
• Something colder than your nose
• Something longer than your arm
• Something smaller than a spider

The finishing touch

Nothing to carry. These go in the brew by voice.

• One thing that does not belong in a potion
• Your best cackle, delivered in person
• A spooky sound, carried back in your mouth
• A wish, whispered into the cauldron
